Using Shout
Shout is a free, informal tool for keeping track of whose turn it is to shout a round — coffee, lunch, drinks, whatever your group's doing. It's built for personal, non-commercial use among a group of people who trust each other.
No accounts, no login. Each group is protected only by the privacy of its link. Anyone who has the link can view and edit that group — add or rename people, record shouts, edit dates, and rename the group itself. Treat the link the way you'd treat a shared document: only send it to people you actually want in the group.
Acceptable use. Please don't use group or person names to harass, defame, or impersonate anyone, or to store information that doesn't belong in a casual round-tracking tool. We reserve the right to remove any group or content that misuses the service, without notice.
Availability. This is run on ordinary web hosting with no uptime guarantee. It might be slow, unavailable, or changed at any time — see the disclaimer below for how that affects you.
Changes. These terms may be updated from time to time; the date at the top of this page reflects the last change.
What we store, and why
What's collected. Only what you type in: a group name, the names of the people in that group, and a timestamp each time someone records a shout. There's no sign-up, so no email address, password, or account details are ever collected.
Where it lives. Each group is stored as a single file on the server this app runs on — there's no database, and nothing is shared with, sold to, or used by any third party for advertising.
Your link is the access control. Because there are no logins, anyone with a group's link can see and edit everything in it. There's no way for us to tell who made a given change beyond what's recorded (a name and a timestamp).
Local storage. Your browser's local storage is used only to remember whether you prefer light or dark mode. No tracking or analytics cookies are set by this app.
Fonts. Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, which may log requests including IP addresses as part of serving those fonts — that's governed by Google's own privacy practices, not ours.
Deleting data. Since there's no account system, there's no self-service "delete my data" button beyond removing people or shouts yourself within a group. If you want a whole group removed from the server, get in touch with whoever runs this site.
Children's data. This tool isn't directed at children, and shouldn't be used to collect information about anyone who isn't old enough to consent to that.
Use at your own risk
Shout is provided "as is," with no warranty of any kind — including accuracy, availability, or fitness for any particular purpose.
It's not a financial or legal record. Shout counts are for fun and fairness among friends, not a binding ledger. We're not responsible for resolving disputes about who actually owes the next round.
No liability for data loss or unauthorized access. Because access is link-based rather than password-protected, and because this runs on ordinary shared hosting rather than a managed database service, we can't guarantee against data loss, downtime, or someone other than your intended group getting hold of a link. Don't put anything in a group that you wouldn't be comfortable with a stranger seeing.
